Mikey’s Story
Remember that family that went all out for several years to not only give our kids some awesome memories in the amazing Halloween Maze in Bellbird but also raised thousands of dollars for charity’s from this to give back to The John Hunter Hospital and Wansey Dialysis Center…. THIS IS THEM
Now it’s time for our community to give back to them!
Back when Mikey was 17 he was diagnosed with diabetes, Mikey had a micro valve repair in 2021 due to a tooth infection where he then had to have all his teeth removed, that alone is a lot for someone so young
Then by 2022 Mikey had to start eye injections due to his diabetes, unfortunately not long after Mikey went into kidney failure and the dreaded dialysis started which has gone on for nearly 3yrs now. Back and forwards to hospital 3 days a week is not easy but something that needs to be done to keep Mikey alive.
In 2023 Mikey was offered a transplant but unfortunately due to a mistake from one of the doctors that transplant was denied when they thought Mikey may have had bladder cancer and Mikey missed out.
The last few months Mikey has become significantly sick and lost a lot of independency relying on Mum and Dad emotionally and financially.
Thankfully on 23/11/24 Mikey received his kidney and pancreas transplant, everything was looking amazing until 3/12 when his body rejected his pancreas and he was rushed back in for surgery. Mike has had to have his pancreas and part of his bowel removed due to the rejection but hopefully all forward steps from here.
Mikey has now been moved to the motel across from Westmead where he will spend the next 5 to 6 weeks recovering with his mum and dad due to living so far away from the hospital and having to revisit each day for testing for the next 5-6 weeks.
As you can imagine the financial toll it’s taking on Mikey and his family has been a huge burden. Mikey has been unable to work due to his health for quite sometime. His been denied disabilities support pension through Centrelink which is in the process of been reviewed but so close to Xmas with two gorgeous boys and such big medical bills we have chosen to set this go fund me up to try and take some of that extra stress away.
