My name is Michael Williams, I am a student athlete, and I play college football. Like many athletes, I have always had a dream to play at the highest level. For college football, that is Division 1.
It was always my dream to play D-1 football, but because I struggled with my ACT, I couldn’t be accepted at a D1 school. Through hard work, I finally got my ACT high enough to receive one of the last scholarships at a Division 2 school, Northwest Missouri State University (NW). I was introduced to some great people and made lifelong friendships during my time at NW, but however great my time was, I still had the dream of playing D-1 football. In order to achieve this goal, I knew I would have to take a risk, but I believe in myself and I believe in the abilities that God has blessed me with. After thinking long and hard, I made the decision to leave NW to attend a Junior College (JC) in California. Attending a JC for 1 year gives me the chance to earn a D-1 scholarship. When I made the hard decision to leave NW I had a 3.2 overall GPA.I started the school year at Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) in February 2016. Spring football began and D-1 coaches were coming to our practices to scout players. After talking to several of these coaches, and listening to their feedback about my ability, I realized that my goal of receiving a scholarship to play football for a top college was just within my reach. However, during this summer I found out that I had an outstanding balance I had to pay NW in order to receive my official transcript so that I could be eligible to play footballhere at MPC. I was not aware of this fact when I enrolled here. NW sent my balance to a collection agency, and tacked on legal fees, making what I owe $6,600. They have stated that I can only pay the full amount to receive the release that will allow me to play ball at MPC.I searched for ways I could pay this off and be able to play this season. I am working 2 jobs while being a full time student, and being on the football team. I asked my parents but they are not in a position to help.I searched for student loans, personal loans, and bank loans. I was not able to receive any because the bill was placed on my credit. I am now running out of options and time. Serval people told me to establish a Go Fund Me account to try and help with the outstanding balance, but I was afraid of asking people for money. However, with my options dwindling I had no choice but to put my pride aside and ask for help. I will miss the first game this Saturday September 3rd, but I hope to raise enough money before the second or 3rd game! I am so close to seeing my dream realized,.By donating you will help me have a chance to achieve what I’ve worked for all my life, and earn an amazing education from a D1 University. I have the chance to turn a risk into a dream come true with your help. I have befriended a professional couple here in Monterey that are assisting and mentoring me. With their organizational help, I will be prepared to pay everyone back that helps me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
