Hi friends - thanks for taking a moment to check out my campaign. I’ve been given the exciting opportunity to do a 6-month internship with the UN, as part of the UN Association of Canada’s International Development & Diplomacy Internship Programme. Whether you’re just checking out my campaign, sharing it with friends, or choosing to support me, every bit helps, and you have my gratitude.
I’ve been in school for the past few years, finishing a Master’s in Software Engineering and currently working on my Master’s of International Public Policy. While being a student doesn’t exactly pay, it has allowed me to do what I love - learn new things and be involved in my community - and it has opened this door to an internship with the UN.
With your support, I'll be interning full-time with UNICEF in Geneva in the Corporate Social Responsibility Unit. I will be working to support UNICEF’s work promoting children’s rights in business practice. I hope my time with UNICEF’s CSR Unit will give me insight into the role, benefits and limitations of CSR in improving children’s rights. This is an exciting new direction for me, and I look forward to sharing it with you.
Here’s where you come in: the internship doesn’t pay, so I need to find alternative sources of financial support. I need to cover the cost of moving to and living in Geneva for six months. While reaching out to you folks requires me to swallow some pride, I’m hoping to raise $1500 through gofundme, enough to cover the cost of flights to Geneva.
*Update:
(Thank you so much for helping me to reach my initial goal! I'm overwhelmed with the outpouring of support.
In order to maintain the momentum of my campaign, I've increased my goal by $1300. $1300 (about 150 francs/month) will help me cover the costs of living in Geneva (excluding rent). Thanks again!)
If you don’t have the capacity to support me financially, you can help me out just by sharing this with your networks and friends. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions, or even just to say hello, and check back to this page for my regular updates.
Thanks so much for your time and support!
Mike
*(Note: GoFundMe charges a fee of about 8% to all donations. If you'd prefer to support me directly through an e-transfer, contact me either directly, or through this page, and I can make that work as well. Thanks!)
