On May 28, Mike had a massive aortic rupture, full Type A aortic dissection, and 2 strokes. Scary stuff, and the kind of thing most don't walk away from. Today (6/25/18) marks 4 weeks in the hospital, with another week expected, and 2-3 weeks of rehab before going home to get well enough for the additional surgery he'll need to fix the dissected aorta. Unfortunately, this catastrophic medical event happened at a time when he was without medical insurance, and so the medical bills are going to be staggering. Mike is very hesitant to request assistance, but he has agreed to allow me to set up an account for those that have offered to make a donation to his medical expenses. 100% of funds received here will go directly to his medical providers.
During his 3 weeks in ICU, Mike required a 2nd life saving surgery, and also suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest event, along with additional complications. Week #4 has been spent in non-critical hospital care, where he is improving every single day.
The doctors believe that a full recovery is possible and even probable, after the additional surgery and months of healing and recovery. We are very hopeful for the future, and we look forward to paying back (and forward) the kindness of so many friends and family.
Thank you,
Julia & Mike
