Hello, my name is Kathy and I'm reaching out on behalf of my incredible older brother, Mike.
Mike has faced more medical challenges than most people do in a lifetime. Over the past 12 years, he has overcome a stroke, a heart attack, and undergone bypass surgery. In a lighter moment amidst these trials, he even broke both arms simultaneously while teaching his nephew how to skateboard. The last 5 years, Mike had needed a kidney transplant. He has been doing dialysis 3 times a week, for hours at a time,
Through every obstacle, Mike has maintained an unwavering positive attitude. His resilience and kindness have left lasting impressions on everyone he meets. I vividly remember when he was discharged after breaking his arms, his nurse said he was as "one of the coolest and nicest patients she had taken care of during her career".
Beyond his medical battles, Mike is a remarkable individual—an artist with his hands, musically talented, and possessing a vast well of knowledge. He's not only been the coolest big brother and uncle, but a great friend.
Throughout all of this time, there is one thing Mike has not stopped doing. working. He could have very easily, stopped and got on disability, but that was never going to happen. Not in his eyes, he would push through.
Thursday May 15th, Mike got the call I don't think he expected would ever come, they had a kidney. Mike had a successful surgery, and while things are not 100% at the moment, the new kidney is in, and he is in good spirits.
Now the hard part kicks in, the journey to recovery involves significant time and of course money for:
Post-operative care and rehabilitation
Anti-rejection medications
Follow-up testing and care from his other doctors
Transportation to and from the transplant center for follow care.
While insurance covers a portion of these costs, the out-of-pocket expenses are substantial and he will not be able to jump right back in action as he has in the past due to the extensive follow up care involved.
We want Mike to be able to take the time to heal, and not have to worry about finances. His work does depend on a pipeline, that he won't have the time to fill, with the appointments needed for follow-up care for his body to heal. We want Mike to focus entirely on his recovery and return to the vibrant life he so richly deserves.
So we humbly ask if you are able to make a contribution, no matter the size, it will make a meaningful difference. If you're unable to donate, sharing this campaign with your network would be immensely appreciated.
To the family of the donor - Words cannot express our gratitude. Your loved one will live on and we can assure will have an epic adventure.
Thank you for taking the time to read Mike's story and for your support during this critical time.
MOM - HE GOT IT!!!!! We all know you are watching over him. Wish you would have been here for the glorious call.
Thanks in advance!
