My name is Ruth Sims.
I am attempting to raise money for my son Michael Sims. I love my son very much and wish to share his story.
My son Michael was in a motorcycle accident on September 30th, 2016. He was on his way home from work when someone pulled out in front of him. When the paramedics arrived, Michael barely had a heart beat. They performed CPR and he was life flighted to Orange Park Medical in the neruo-Tramatic ICU. He was bleeding internally. And went directly into surgery where they removed his spleen. He suffered a fractured scalpua, a bruised lung, a fractured pelvis (Iliac wing) and seven fractured ribs, he had to have 21 units of blood put back into his body.
When we arrived at the hospital, we were heartbroken. We were unsure if he would even pull through. He was intubated and heavily sedated in an induced coma. Throughout the first week they tried to wake him, his body would become comabative and his heart rate and temperature would sky rocket. They tried this several times. They were having trouble waking him to see if he would be responsive, without his body retaliating. They had to put him back into an induced coma. He also had to go back into surgery for his fractured scapula.
We waited as patiently as possible, praying, constantly praying. His body and mind were finally able to wake up after two and a half weeks. When his eyes opened, we weren't sure if he would know us or not. The moment he recognized us it was beyond wonderful. He was very emotional. He raise his arm and hand up towards the heavens and whispered the word TRUST and has repeated this several times.
On October 19th at 6:30pm he was moved to a Rehabilitation hospital and is currently there. He is making improvements everyday. However he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
Michael will be out of work for a while, and we are unsure of when he can return to work. He will need someone with him 24/7 until we hear differently from the doctors.
This is my son. My beloved Michaelson. Our Mike.
I can not tell you enough how very thankful and grateful we, and Michael will be if you are able to donate any amount to his cause.
