Mike's Project Walk Fund.
Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
As you know, it has been almost 5 years since my accident. It has been a long road of recovery, and I am still making strides to better myself every day. It has been a difficult journey, but support from you has made it possible.
I am looking to take the next step in my physical therapy. I would like to attend a week long program with Project Walk in Denver, Colorado. Project Walk is a leading recovery and training facility for those with paralysis. They are one of the most recognized and experienced foundations in the world.
All money raised will go directly towards cost of the program and travel expenses. I greatly appreciate any donation you are able to make. I will be updating you before I leave for the program and keep you in the loop during my week of training.
More about my current physical therapy
Currently at therapy, I am continuing to strengthen my legs and focusing on balance work. The goal is to get back to using my cane to walk, and eventually, walking on my own again.
Project Walk is a high intensity program that will hopefully speed up the process to get back to not using my cane at all. Their state-of-the-art equipment will accelerate my rehabilitation.
I will bring home the exercises and teaching I've learned and share them with my great physical therapists back here. This will allow me to keep working hard on trying to get back to walking as normal as possible.
My history:
I've had 7 surgeries over the last 5 years. (March 2012, May 2013, April 2014, March 2016, July 2016, July 2016, August 2017.
This last round I spent in hospital in July was the roughest. I went in for 1 surgery which the surgeon said was more invasive than my very first one. After surgery, I ended up with two major complications. First, I had fluid building up on my spinal cord which became septic & nearly killed me. I needed emergency surgery to relieve the fluid. The second complication was the fluid building up again. Thankfully they caught it early on and the doctors decided to put a shunt in that drains the fluid from my spinal cord to my stomach. This shunt is still in today.
I will be going out to Denver for the treatment May 14th - May 20th.
Thank-you
Mike Faust
