Fundraiser for Mike White

Hello, my name is Shawn Evans, and I’ve had the privilege of working with Mike since joining Seaspan Ferries in 2017. From day one, Mike stood out as one of the most kind-hearted, positive, and uplifting individuals I’ve ever met. Anyone who has had the opportunity to work alongside him—or simply spend time in his presence—would likely say the same.

Mike has already faced significant challenges in his life, including a long battle with diabetes and a successful kidney transplant. Through it all, he has remained resilient and optimistic, never allowing hardship to dull his generous spirit.

Unfortunately, Mike and his family have recently received heartbreaking news. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer affecting his throat, esophagus, liver, and stomach. As he begins this next difficult chapter, Mike will be stepping away from work to focus on his health and spend precious time with his loved ones.

In true Mike fashion, he remains hopeful and determined to fight—with the same strength and courage he’s shown before.

While Mike has not asked for help, I’ve created this fundraiser on his behalf to offer some financial relief for him and his family during this time. The goal is simply to allow them to focus on what matters most—healing and being together—without the added stress of financial uncertainty. More importantly, this is a chance for friends, family, and coworkers to show Mike that he’s not alone in this fight.

We’re also hosting a community fundraiser event on Saturday, June 21st, at Sip Pub (601 Bruce Ave, Nanaimo) from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM (16:00–20:00 for the mariners among us). If you’re unable to attend, please consider leaving a message and donation here to show your support.
