On Tuesday, November 26, Mike McGrann took his motorcycle out for what he thought would be his last ride of the season. He was only a few miles away from home when an uninsured, unlicensed driver collided with him. Mike did everything he could to avoid the crash but the car trapped his left leg between the bike and the bumper. The driver of the car stopped but did not get out to check on Mike. People who were driving by stopped to see if Mike needed help and called 911. He was airlifted to Stony Brook hospital with extreme injuries to his knee. He was assessed and taken to surgery within a few hours. The doctors did everything they could but they could not save his leg. He is a thoughtful, caring person who loves adventure and being outdoors. Now at 28 years old, Mike has to learn how to live his life as an amputee. He lost his leg above the knee. He also has two broken hips and faces a few more surgeries in the next week. He will have weeks of hospital stays and months of rehab. As we all know an unexpected long term hospital stay can financially ruin you. We are asking for any help you can give so mike can focus on his recovery and not financial stress.
