Hi, my name is Heather, and I’m fundraising for my friend Mike Buston.
This year has started out rough for him. Mike is a long time employee of Davey Tree Co of Canada. This year was shaping up like many others. With retirement still a ways off, his plan was to be in the seat of his excavator, clearing trees for the railroads, in provinces all over Canada. A hard working man, living life on the road, with his team, and his friends.
After arriving on site in January, fellow coworker, Tom, realized something was wrong. He convinced him they should go to the hospital. At the nearest one, Dryden Regional in Ontario, he was admitted, and suddenly, diagnosed with a large brain tumour.
No time was wasted. It wasn’t long, and he was flown to Thunder Bay. There, his new surgeon prepped for surgery, on the mass, now dubbed ‘Cheeseburger’ due to its sheer size. Miraculously, Mike made it through surgery.
Slowly, things are improving. His care team at Thunder Bay Regional is guiding him through physiotherapy and radiation. He’s learning to walk again, and the treatment is showing promise.
Often though, when our health fails us, finances can become an issue. Bills need to keep getting paid, and recovery takes time. The prospects of going back to work in the near future for Mike are looking faint.
I’m hoping we can find it in our pockets to donate to this generous guy, who always made time for others, whether with a helping hand or just lending an ear. His journey to recovery will be slow and costly.
Thank you,
Heather B.
