Thursday June 9th, in the early morning hours, Mike Mosiuk and his son Rysen were awakened by their dogs barking as some heroic tourists who were passing by, seen a fire and came pounding on their door.
A devastating, vicious fire had started in Mike’s workshop, engulfing it and quickly spreading to nearby sheds, trailers, and eventually the family home. The outer walls of the house were fully engulfed in flames but the fire had not broken through the walls, so the smoke detectors had not yet gone off. Mike was able to get himself, his son and one of their dogs to safety.
The blaze spread quickly and broke through the walls, consuming the house, making it impossible to re-enter the family home to save precious family pets.
They have lost everything, but each other.
The devastation is heartbreaking, emotionally and financially. They have lost absolutely everything, they escaped with their lives, and the clothes they were sleeping in. They are currently staying with family while they try to recover from this disaster, but they will soon need to find their own place to call home, and they will need help making that happen.
Mike and Rysen are understandably in shock and denial, but they survived, and that is most important. They now need help to rebuild their lives. They need nothing short of everything and anything. Human beings are not designed to go through life alone. No one should bear the burden of tough times all by themselves, this is the time for us to rise up as a community and support one of our own.
