Mike had been experiencing some abdominal pain at the beginning of October of this year. He went in for an abdominal CT as he thought it may be appendicitis. Mike had been diagnosed with Colon Cancer 8 years ago and underwent a bowel resection, so having abdominal pain was concerning to him.
The results from the CT were inconclusive, showing he had a mass and it may be cancerous, or some sort of colitis. His surgeon scheduled an exploratory laparotomy for the next day on Friday October 16th at Lakeview Hospital. The surgery went well and biopsies were sent and wouldn't be back until the following Tuesday. Mike did fine initially but developed some post-op complications resulting in a Nasogastric Tube being inserted and being started on TPN & Lipids (which is artifical nutrition being given through the veins through a PICC line). Results came back that it was a combination of colitis and an infection known as C-Diff.
Mike didn't seem to be progressing and then on Monday October 26th his Surgeon took him back to surgery as he was concerned he had a major infection. He came out of surgery with a Ileostomy bag & a small opening into the intestines where they could directly adminster antibiotics. He was sent to the ICU and treated for sepsis.
Mike has stabilized and continues to make small improvements day by day. He has a long road to recovery and he has lost a lot of strength. His wife; Liz has had to pick up a lot of the duties at home being being both financial and sole caregiver to the 3 kids that still live at home. We dont know when Mike will be home, but hoping for the end of next week. He will surely have a long road of recovery. We are just asking to lift some of the financial burden for our parents as they will be enduring more surgeries in the future and not sure when Mike will be able to return to work. We have appreciated all the help so far and any additional help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
