Hello! For those of you who may not know, my father (Mikel Marker) was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called, Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma.
After much discussion with his orthopedic oncologist, it was decided that an above the knee amputation would be his best chance at a curative approach to treating this cancer. On January 13th, the surgery was completed and he is now just beginning his journey to rehabilitation. He will be meeting with a medical oncologist soon to discuss the need for further treatment vs. close monitoring.
My dad has shown so much courage in the face of adversity, but I know this has been a difficult time for him. I would like to help take some of the financial burden off of him and his wife, Carolyn, so that they can focus on his surgical recovery and rehab.
He has several upcoming expenses including, hospital bills, inpatient/outpatient rehab, the need for assistive devices (wheelchair, grab bars, ramp, etc.), and prosthetics. We are also needing to make several renovations to his home to make it safer, and allow him more independence in his new normal.
If you are unable to donate at this time, we completely understand! Please just continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he embarks on this journey ♥️
