This is for our Daddy,
James Michael Duffey, most of you know him as Mike Duffey.
As we write this we can imagine him getting upset with us because he's not one to ask for anything from anyone… But we are going to ask anyway...
To give you a little backstory from the past three years. My dad lost his mother to a rare cancer found in her arm. Although she went through a lot of treatments, the cancer ended up taking over. Her last years were filled with so much suffering,
After losing his mom, Dad took on the role of helping to take care of his 93 year old father. Unfortunately, only 9 months after losing his Mother, our Daddy was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has spread to his lymph nodes. A few weeks after being diagnosed, he got laid off from his job after working for the company for 31 years. Luckily, he is an asset, so a new company snapped him up. They have been a god send to my dad while he now has to face the biggest battle of his life.
He has been getting treatment at MD Anderson for the past two years. Traveling back and forth from Mcallen to Houston constantly. Paying for hotels, gas and food constantly. Not to mention him having to take off work to do so. My dad is a fighter, a survivor, and works hard everyday. He was raised in Mexico as a missionary child. He's lived a life in giving to others. He is quick to help others in need even when he didn't have the funds.
We write this because after a year of treatment he had a complete prostatectomy and several lymph nodes taken out to eliminate the cancer. Although the treatment seemed to be a success.. Now, a year later, there is a cancerous mass in the same region. He is again faced with battling this aggressive cancer. Now, his doctors have said he needs 7 weeks of radiation at MD Anderson in Houston. That means he’ll need to relocate for 7 weeks. Thankfully, my mom and his job are being very supportive during this transition. We just pray that with help and support from you we can help and all be there for our Daddy!! Funds are appreciated but prayers and support are more important. If we could just lift one burden off his back while he can focus on fighting this cancer off would be such a blessing.
Let’s make Mikey Great Again!!
