On Friday, September 18, 2015, Mike fell and suffered a spinal cord injury while out fishing. He was taken to Mercy Folsom, where he underwent surgery for the injury. He remained in the ICU for 8 days, then spent another 7 in the Progressive Care wing. He has continued to improve, and is currently at Mercy Acute Rehabilitation in downtown Sacramento. He is expected to remain there for 2-3 weeks, then will be sent home to manage with the help of a home health nurse.
Initially, Mike was told that he would not walk again. However, within days of his surgery he was moving his legs and feet. His current prognosis is that he will be walking within 6-12 months.
While insurance covers a great deal, the family is responsible for the cost of the home health nurse. At $250/day, this expense will add up quickly. The family is asking for assistance, and are most grateful.
