Mike's battle with ALS
Donation protected
Early in 2020 our brother Mike received some of the worst news you can possibly imagine, he had been diagnosed with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It is a progressive disease, which means it gets worse over time. It affects nerves in your brain and spinal cord that control your muscles. As your muscles get weaker, it gets harder for you to walk, talk, eat, and breathe. Today medication and therapy can slow ALS and reduce discomfort, but there's no cure.
My Brothers and I are starting this campaign to help Mike and his wife Chris get through these trying times. The time has come for Mike to leave his job and await the unfair 5-month waiting period for Social Security Disability. Costly home modifications are inevitable. And, there will be constant overnight trips to UPenn in Philadelphia as Mike has been accepted into a rigorous clinical trial – our hope for a miracle.
Please keep your fingers crossed that this trial helps!!!"
