Mike's obituary and Celebration of Life Information:
Michael L. Zaloga, age 62, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Amy, mother-in-law, Jackie and brother-in-law, Casey, after a courageous five-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. He was born on November 5, 1962, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Louis and Kathleen (Geoghan) Zaloga, Mike spent most of his life in his beloved hometown of Muskegon before moving to the Silver Lake area almost 20 years ago. He graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central, Class of 1981, and went on to earn his associate degree from Muskegon Community College. However, one of Mike’s proudest achievements was completing a five-year program with IBEW Local 275 and passing his state exam shortly thereafter to become a Journeyman. He began his career in 1999 and dedicated himself fully to his craft until his retirement in 2025. On August 12, 1994, Mike married the love of his life, Amy Doan, in Muskegon. Together, they shared 31 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Mike will be fondly remembered by many as Santa Claus, often accompanied by his Mrs. Claus during the Silver Lake tree lighting ceremony. A devoted Christmas enthusiast, he poured his heart into creating a magical light show each year at their Silver Lake home, complete with Trans-Siberian Orchestra music. He truly embodied the spirit of the season, bringing joy and wonder to all who experienced it. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace in nature. He loved bow fishing and hunting and often spent time on his deck soaking in the sun, watching the koi pond, and enjoying the wildlife around him. Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Mike could light up any room and always kept people on their toes with his good-natured shenanigans. Above all, Mike will be remembered for his unyielding strength, positive spirit, and the lasting impression he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. He is survived by his loving wife, Amy Zaloga; brother, Jeffery (Sue) Zaloga; three sisters, Susan (Dana) Olsen, Amy (Jason) Carpenter and Terri (Lee) Majeski; father, Louis (Joni) Zaloga; mother-in-law, Jacklyn (Jaime) Rosenberg; father-in-law, Lewis Thomas (Bobbi Roberts) Doan; two brothers-in-law, Casey (Tonya) Rosenberg and Corey Rosenberg; two sisters-in-law, Tracey French and Lauren (Pete Hicks) Doan Hysell; special niece, Reece Rosenberg who will always love her uncle Mike; two nephews, Tyler and Austin; two nieces, Kailee and Amanda; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Zaloga. A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at IBEW Local 275, 140 64th Ave. N, Coopersville, MI 49404.
