Always strong, healthy, and active my husband, Mike, began experiencing problems with soreness in his ribs, problems swallowing and heartburn. After months of testing, last month he was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. Without treatment he was given less than a year.
We were hopeful of the possibility that genetic testing would open up over 20 other non-chemo options. However, Mike has no matches for treatment within the US.
Yesterday, we were given the news that as long as Mike stays on chemo (maximum 48 weeks) and 12 months of immunology treatment, he will live. That gives us 2 years max IF he continues with his current treatment plan which makes him sick, in pain, and tired with no appetite. This isn't good enough for me.
Any one that knows me knows I'm not a take no for an answer kind of girl. I intend to use that passion (stubbornness) to get my husband more QUALITY TIME. He's only 54 and has 3 sons to watch get married, not yet born grandchildren to meet, plenty of life still to enjoy.
There are treatments that he can try. Unfortunately, they are not in this country and are not covered by our insurance. We did not come to this decision to start a Go Fund Me lightly. We prefer to be the givers. We hate asking others for help. Especially during this difficult time for all. At this point, I'm willing to do anything possible to give my husband a life he deserves. I appreciate any help, big or small, and if you can't give, prayers are always welcomed.
