Mike Terbilcox Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Anyone who knows my brother, Mike Terbilcox, knows that he is the first person to offer help to those in need. He is one of the most generous people I've ever met with both his time and his money. Mike and Lauren are both quick to offer help to friends, family, and truly anyone in need. This time, it is they who need our help.
***Mike and Lauren need funds to pay for Mike's medical care from an emergent visit to the hospital, as well as money to support their family while Mike recovers.***
On July 23, 2019 Mike became severely ill after work and was rushed to the Emergency Room by his coworker. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis and acute kidney failure. He initially seemed OK and was given pain medication and IV fluids. However, the next evening his condition quickly worsened and he was admitted to the ICU and intubated (a tube was placed down his throat to help him breathe). He developed compartment syndrome (extreme swelling in his abdomen), which caused rhabdomyolysis (muscle death), that further damaged his kidneys. The pressure from the swelling also caused his body to form two blood clots, in his liver and spleen. His doctors feared we would lose him.
However, Mike is a fighter. He loves his life and loves his family even more. After being intubated for two days, his body began to slowly recover, and he started to breathe on his own. He slowly fought his way out of the ICU, and after 10 days he was finally released from the ICU. Two days later he was discharged and is continuing to recover at home.
Unfortunately, Mike had just begun a new job in June of 2019, and was just ten days shy of completing his probationary period and being covered by health insurance when he became ill. This means that Mike and Lauren will likely be responsible for the entire cost of his hospital stay. In addition, Mike was working two hours from home when his illness occurred, so Lauren had to miss work and travel in order to be at his side.
Mike's employer, Paragon Restoration II, has been incredible in supporting Mike, Lauren and their family. Mike will have a job once he can return to work, and his medical insurance was instated on August 1, 2019. However, the insurance only covers so much. Mike remains on very expensive medications for the blood clots and other complications while he recovers. even after insurance, his medicines cost about $600/month out-of-pocket.
Additionally, Mike works in concrete/construction. This is a manual labor job, so he is unable to work while he recovers. Doctors are unsure when Mike will be able to return to work, and will only receive about 70% of his salary while on disability.
Mike, and all of us who love him, are incredibly grateful he is with us today. The most important thing to both Mike and Lauren was to have Mike home to be with his family. While his life is the most important thing, this family could really use our help as Mike recovers. Any little bit helps, and if you are unable at this time, they ask for your prayers. Please donate if you can, and share this page with anyone else you think can help us reach our goal. Thank you in advance, and God Bless!
