Mike Smith, Martial Artist

The Martial Arts Community suddenly lost a great instructor, family man, and a community icon who served and taught children and adults since he received his black Belt in 1980.

His dedication to teaching the underserved community of San Francisco especially the children(5-18 y/o) helped transformed their lives to become  better people and productive members of society.

Mike's smiling face and his sense of humor was a contagious trait that all of who knew him will miss. Mike was a beacon of light to his family, and all the people he touched. Mike was a  true Marital Artist who loved the gift of learning and teaching others consistently for over 40 years. He was an exemplary Sensei who lived life training in Martial Arts and teaching others self-respect, self-perfection, and spiritual development.

Mike Smith moved from The Bronx, New York to San Francisco in the early 1970s. He found a home in San Francisco's Larkin's Bukido
Martial Arts Academy where he earned his 5th degree black belt in Karate. He later went to earn his 1st degree black belt in Judo from Sensei Palacio at City College of San Francisco.

Mike will be missed by all and especially the Larkin's Bukido Family and the Bay Area Martial Arts Community.

The funds raised will be used to help his surviving children who are in charge of final funeral expenses and other unexpected needs.

Mike's celebration of life will be January 18th @ 11:00am at  Bryant Mortuary at 635 Fulton St. in San Francisco, Ca. 94102.
