Mike Sandford’s Recovery After Spinal Cord Injury

Donation protected
On April 27th, Mike Sandford was involved in a severe car accident that has turned his life upside down. After spending weeks in the ICU, Mike was moved to the Spinal Unit at the hospital, facing a long and challenging road to recovery. Among his multiple injuries, Mike has sustained a severe spinal cord injury. We have just found out on May 29th, that Mike is quadriplegic. After thinking he is only paralyzed from the waist down, this is quite a shock to Mike, and the whole family.

Mike will soon begin his rehabilitation - which we are unsure of what this is going to look like with this new news. His entire life is about to change. This path includes extensive treatments, months in the hospital, and the need for specialized equipment and therapy. We are reaching out to our community to help ease this transition for Mike, make his recovery as smooth as possible, and relieve some of the financial stress of starting over.

Your generous contributions will go towards:

  • A savings fund for Mike to support his life after discharge
  • Adaptive equipment and necessary home modifications
  • Additional expenses not covered by insurance
  • All funds will go directly to Mike

Mike has built quite the community for himself in BC, with many loved ones reaching out over the last month to see how he is doing. It has been beautiful to see how much love his community and family have for him. Now, we have the opportunity to support him in his time of need. Any amount you can give will make a tremendous difference in his journey towards recovery and adaptation.

Thank you for your support and generosity and if you are searching for more details about the accident or to further see how Mike is doing, please send me an email.

Update June 17 2024:

Last Thursday, Mike was transferred to the Foothills hospital in Calgary Alberta. The transfer went well and Mike will spend the remainder of his treatment back home in Calgary, near family.

Because of your donations, we were able to get the family together while waiting for the transfer to better support Mike. Having his family near has been crucial for his recovery and has kept his spirits high. Thank you for all of your support as we navigate this!
