Hello, My name is Casey Ryder. On Saturday, July 22nd, 2023 my father, Mike Ryder, was working in a customer's home when he unexpectedly suffered a massive heart attack which caused his heart to stop. Thankfully the homeowner started CPR and chest compressions for 8 minutes until the EMS medics arrived on scene. The medics then started mechanical compressions for another 4 minutes while delivering 4 electric shocks to his chest, restarting his heart. He was then transported to the nearest hospital in critical condition.
My dad was sedated and on a ventilator for 2 1/2 weeks in the ICU. He lost 30 lbs on a 160 lb frame. During this time, there were discussions about pulling the plug on the ventilator as he had developed pneumonia and a staph infection. Additionally, he was in and out of the ICU due to multiple A-fib episodes and during one of those scary episodes, the doctors had to cardiovert his heart back into rhythm. He was given a tracheostomy and a feeding tube to help with breathing and nutrition. He also had 6 blood transfusions due to a GI bleed. For over 3 weeks, his condition was touch and go but slowly began to improve. My dad was in the hospital for about 2 months which led to massive income losses from his business. Doctors are estimating he could be restricted from work for a year. His business had already taken an 80% downturn during COVID and was struggling to stay afloat during the pandemic. This incident has nearly bankrupted the business. My dad is not one to ask for help, but this tragic event left him with difficulty walking and a significant loss of motor skills and memory. He is relearning those things slowly as his body recovers.
He has always been on the other side of the coin being the one continuously giving to others. Now in his time of need, we are reaching out for assistance to help defer some of his lost wages and unreimbursed medical bills. I hope your gracious assistance will keep him from losing all that he has worked for over a lifetime. He has always worked so hard in life as he raised my sister and me for our whole childhood as he had primary custody since I was 4.
Many of you may know of my dad's track coaching career where he has given 30 years to Big Walnut Track and Field where he was a volunteer the first 15 years. He is not just any basic coach. He has trained athletes to 30 state titles, 8 state records, 3 national champions, 14 NCAA podiums/All-Americans, NCAA national champions with over 40 achieving college scholarships. His coaching has helped so many achieve their dreams and financial stability as over 95% have gone on to graduate.

I hope you can help assist me in restoring some of this financial hardship. Your generous donations will directly contribute to his unreimbursed medical expenses first and any funds left over will be donated to Big Walnut Track and Field.

Thank you and God bless,

Casey Ryder
