Mike Pierce medical expenses

The last several years have been challenging for the Pierce family. In 2016, Mike and Cathy found out that their 17 yr. old son Spencer was diagnosed with lung cancer.  Following many tests and treatments, Spencer had two-thirds of his right lung taken out to remove the cancerous tissue. Today, Spencer is cancer free.
In September of 2017, Mike became very ill. Mike was rushed to the hospital where numerous tests were performed. Mike needed his gallbladder removed but the test also showed major issues with his heart. Although he knew he was pre-disposed to a genetic heart condition, he had NO idea how bad his heart had become.
Following the gallbladder removal, Mike was assigned a team of heart doctors at Intermountain Medical Center in Utah. The doctors informed Mike that his heart was so bad that he needed to be put on the heart transplant list. He was listed in November of 2017. For the past 2 ½ years, Mike has been in the unfortunate position of being on the heart transplant list but not being high enough on it to warrant the highest priority. This meant frequent hospital visits for close monitoring of not only his heart, but other vital organs negatively impacted by weak blood flow.
In early 2020, Mike’s condition continued to deteriorate. With the deterioration of his heart, he moved up the list and was hospitalized on April 23, 2020 until he would receive his heart. Despite many setbacks and surgeries, the last 5 weeks, Mike is scheduled to get his heart tomorrow morning!!
As you can imagine, the Pierce’s have been burdened with an exorbitant amount of medical bills. In addition to the medical expenses from Spencer’s cancer treatment, their medical expenses will balloon to over $60K out of pocket.
Mike receiving a heart tomorrow is not the finish line. Mike will have a long recovery ahead and we are hoping to assist the Pierce family so that they can concentrate on his recovery versus the mounting cost associated with this transplant.
We are setting up this go fund me account to help ease their burden and help them concentrate on Mike’s healing process. Thank you very much in advance!!
