Mike Phouthavong’s Funeral & Medical Expense Fund
*This is the official fundraiser page for Mike Phouthavong managed by his son, Mikie Phouthavong.
Hello family and friends,
It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that my father, Mike (Phetsamay, Mikey, or Mike Jones) Phouthavong, passed away on December 24th, 2020 at around 7:45am. My father went into the hospital very ill and eventually succumbed to his sickness.
Mike Phouthavong lived a happy and strong 57 years spreading his kindness, cheerful demeanor, and goofy smile. Mike was a loving father, uncle, brother, friend, and co-worker loved by many. He left a huge impact in many people’s life and we’ve enjoyed hearing all of the stories and memories you’ve shared about my father.
My father enjoyed playing his musical instruments, playing tennis, working on house projects, and taking care of his grandson. He lived a happy life filled with laughter, entertainment, fun and joy and never took a single day for granted.
One of our favorite memories that we share and cherish with him was when we were able to go back to Laos and visit his family. He showed us where he grew up, his family home, his hangout spots, and where he swam to cross the Mekong River to come to the United States.
He is survived by Lisa Phouthavong (wife), Lilly Phouthavong (daughter), Mikie Phouthavong (son), and Logan Phouthavong (grandson).
Many people are asking for ways to donate to our family and we have set up a GoFundMe page for any donations. We appreciate all your prayers and condolences at this time. Because the death of my father was so unexpected, my family and I were not prepared with this financial burden of the medical and funeral costs. With a traditional Buddhist Funeral, expenses can become substantial and overwhelming. Any donations are greatly appreciated and we can ginh tanh (offerings to my beloved father).
*If you guys would like to donate us directly, please feel free to send any donations to my Venmo (@MikiePhouthavong).*
As of right now, the details for his funeral and memorial service are unknown but we will update you when we know and finalize more details.
Again, we are extremely thankful and grateful for the outpour of love and support my family and I received the past few days.
If you would like, please leave memories and any pictures you may have with Mike as it is a way for you to tum boun (provide a spiritual message) and help my family and I heal during this time. We would love to read these messages and think of all of the happy times and life experiences my father had.
