Mike Needs Your Urgent Help

Mike is a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, brother, friend, and proud Veteran who needs your support.

A message from Mike:

We finally spoke with the surgeon. He was very thorough and presented several options. My surgery is scheduled for October 20. It will be a full open-heart procedure, requiring my chest to be cracked opened.

I need a new aortic valve, and we’ve chosen a bovine (cow) valve. I’ll also undergo triple bypass surgery to address three severe blockages (90%, 85%, and 80%). The surgeon will use arteries from my arm and leg for the bypass.

The operation is expected to take over 5 hours, and I’ll be in the hospital for 7 to 10 days. I’ll also need a bloodline pick for hemodialysis for a few months due to my kidney failure, which makes a mechanical valve unsuitable.

On a hopeful note, a kidney has been donated in my name. A friend of Rose’s (Peggy’s sister) lost her young daughter, and through their unimaginable loss, I’ve been given a chance to move up on the list. I don’t know the right words to express this, but I’m deeply grateful.

The surgeon says I have a 95% chance of surviving the surgery, and the cow valve should last 8 to 10 years. When it needs to be replaced, it can be done through a much less invasive procedure.
