My uncle, Mike Kurensky, has always been a steady presence in my life, and in my mother’s and siblings’ lives, as we’ve spent the last roughly 18 years as next door neighbors, and he’s always been just a phone call away whenever we needed a hand. While he might seem tough on the outside, those who know him understand how deeply he cares for the people and animals around him. Whether it was helping with a project, lending a tool, or just being there when things got tough, Mike has always been someone the people around him could count on.


This was an extremely sudden and devastating diagnosis. Mike was recently diagnosed with liver cancer and is facing other serious health concerns that are still being evaluated. Because of these health issues, he hasn’t been able to work for the past month. The unknowns of his health complications are starting to weigh heavily on his heart, and worrying about bills getting paid is adding unneeded stress during an already difficult time. Mike is applying for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security assistance, but as many know, those processes can take a long time to be reviewed and approved.


The sudden loss of income has made it impossible for him to keep up with hospital bills, rent, utilities, and basic necessities like food. Mike lives alone with his beloved dogs, who are his constant companions and a big part of his life. We’re raising funds to help Mike cover his medical expenses and day-to-day bills while he focuses on his health.
