Mike Hole was a brilliant, dedicated teacher of history, with special passion for the history of Britain. To honor his memory, Mike's wife Indigo, his family, and friends are endowing a scholarship for a student at Fullerton College, which Mike considered his teaching "home."
Mike's courses in British History attracted eager and curious students. One wrote after learning of his passing, "Professor Hole was a phenomenal professor and I learned so much from our readings and discussions and essays. He gave great feedback and was so encouraging that I always looked forward to working on things for his class."
We want to pay tribute to Mike's generosity of spirit and his zeal for encouraging his students to aim high with their dreams. Over two-thirds of Fullerton College students are first-generation college-goers, and the majority work at least part time in addition to their studies. 80% of Fullerton College's students are people of color; 56% are Hispanic/Latino. Fullerton, like so many of California's community colleges, is the gateway to higher education for people whose families have traditionally not had college options.
Our hope is to raise an endowment of at least $25,000 to support students who are pursuing a degree in British history. Fullerton College will then invest that endowment, and the income will create an ongoing annual scholarship.
We are setting up this GoFundMe campaign as a convenient way for people to contribute to the scholarship fund. Mike's family and Fullerton College will be making foundational gifts, and we will keep you updated on the overall progress of the fund. All money raised will be transferred to the scholarship fund, which will be administered by the Friends of Fullerton College Foundation (EIN 20-4162060). We would like to make this contribution by May 1, 2021.
If you are interested in making a substantial gift to the Mike Hole Memorial Scholarship Fund, and would like to discuss tax deductions, stock donations, or other options for giving, please contact Brent Hunter , Director of Planned Giving at North Orange County Community College District, who is working with us to establish this memorial to Mike. (Please also cc: Jayne Williams , who is administering this GoFundMe on behalf of the family.)
All of us who loved Mike and his fervor for learning will appreciate any contribution you can make, no matter how small. Fullerton College students will appreciate it too, as you make it possible for them to pursue their educational dreams. Thank you.
