Please Help Mike Holder Recover From AML Leukemia

Hi, my name is MJ , and I am starting this campaign for my husband, Mike Holder. In October 2024, Mike was diagnosed with an aggressive form of AML ( Acute Myeloid Leukaemia ). Our world was turned upside down as we began this unexpected and challenging journey.

Mike’s treatment is taking place at the Calgary Cancer Centre, a 3-hour drive from our home.

His treatment plan is intense, with doctors anticipating at least a year of aggressive and ongoing care.

* Mikes first round of ‘induction’ chemotherapy was successful in achieving remission. YAY!

* Next he will undergo “consolidation” chemotherapy to target any remaining cancer cells in his body

* After recovery, he will begin preparing for a bone marrow/stem cell transplant. This phase will involve finding a donor and undergoing another (most intensive) round of chemotherapy to eliminate all existing bone marrow and stem cells and to prepare his body to accept donor transplant. There is a 100 day isolation period after transplant.

This has been an incredibly difficult time for both of us. As Mike focuses on healing, the financial challenges of his treatment have become a significant source of stress. Unfortunately, while Alberta Health covers some costs, many critical expenses are not included.

How Funds Will Be Used:

* Living away from home during treatment

* Travel to and from hospital on a regular basis and travel between our home and Calgary when possible

* Food and daily living expenses

* Uncovered medical costs

* Monthly parking pass and fuel
