Mike Higgins – First Cancer – Now THIS!

Hi, my name is Jenny and I am a friend of Mike’s. Through this fundraiser I’m reaching out to Mike’s friends, acquaintances or simply anyone touched by Mike’s plight.

 

Mike has known adversity in the past, having survived seven years of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant in his fight against an aggressive blood cancer. Since 2008, Mike has been a grateful disability pensioner. His journey really inspired me to keep fighting through the tough times during my own bout with cancer. He set an example of the power of positive thinking and determination.

Now at the age of 76, he’s facing another huge challenge. And this time he needs the support of his community and friends.

 

A traumatic one–and–a half year building nightmare has left Mike with an unfinished house and a drained bank account. Sadly, I've seen  numerous reports in the media of unethical behaviour in the building industry.
His house, which should have been finished a year ago, is still an incomplete, uncertified, mouldy house frame.

To make matters worse, Mike’s legal advice is that he has no legal avenues of redress, can't discuss the matter, and now has to find $70,000 to finish the job.

Mike was so trusting for so long. Unfortunately he's lost almost everything. To me it seems absolutely disgraceful.

 

I’ve watched this whole drawn out saga take its toll on Mike’s fragile health. As his friend, I’m turning my indignation and anger about this situation into action. This fundraiser will help Mike finally finish his house where, hopefully, he will regain his health.

For many years, including the years of his cancer treatment, Mike supported numerous charities, including Medecins Sans Frontieres, the Children’s Hospital, the Leukemia Foundation, environmental and social justice organisations, as well as sponsoring seven children overseas for the Save the Children Fund. Mike has always given freely of his money, time and assets to family, friends and even strangers in need.

 

I think it’s his time to receive.
