- My name is Mike Malewski and I am battling stage 4 cancer. I was diagnosed in August of 2022 with stage 4 cancer that has metastasized to the liver. To date I have received 20 rounds of chemotherapy. I have tried to continue working through treatment but as you can imagine it is quite difficult. I have decided to apply for disability and have to wait for all of the red tape to be untangled. In the meantime I can not be employed and receive an income. I will use the funds to help keep the bills paid and the lights on. Cancer is very expensive even with insurance. It will take all your money and possessions if possible. I have worked for 40 years and have never collected unemployment or any benefits associated with it. This is all new territory for me. If you can help great. If not, I understand as times are tough for everybody right now. I am spending as much time as possible with family and friends not knowing what the future holds. I am tough enough to to beat this and am giving it all I have. I have a 3 year old grandson who needs me and inspires me to keep going. If life is a gift, why is it so expensive to stay alive? Our system is broke.
