Thursday, Oct. 17 Mike had some tests done that led him to having to have an angiogram the next day, Friday Oct. 18. The results were not good and open heart surgery was a must.
During this time, Mike was given too much plavix, which is a blood thinner, and surgery was not an option until that medication was out of his system. He was sent home with strict instructions to lay low and he had to have his nitro with him at all times.
The doctors scheduled him to have surgery Monday, Oct. 28 and made it very clear to Mike and his wife Sandy, that they did not know what would happen when they opened his chest. The surgeon was planning on doing a triple to quadruple bypass and they ended up only having to do a double bypass. During surgery they found that Mike's left side of his heart was compensating for the right side. Sandy and Mike were told the right coronary artery was 100 percent blocked and the left coronary was 90 percent blocked.
Sandy said the doctors told them this was a miracle Mike had the appointment Thursday, Oct. 17 and that this surgery was able to save him.
The struggles this unexpected medical expense brings to the Gray family is overwhelming. To help these people who have helped so many others during their times of need, this GoFundMe Page is being created. Mike will need to be off work for three months, right over the holiday season and will need a lot of cardiac therapy and follow-up.
The funds raised will go to Mike and Sandy to help them cover the costs of Mike being off work as well as the medical expenses that have accumulated because of this diagnosis.
