Mike Going’s Medical Fund

Donation protected

As many of you now know, the indomitable Mike Going has been fighting a rare illness for upwards of three years; he has decided to spend the remainder of this fight at peace and at home with his family. My Dad, Mike Going, has gracefully elected to enter hospice at home. After a year marked by difficulty for so many we are both humbled and honored to be asked by so many friends “how they can help” - we are starting this Gofundme as it seems to be the simplest and most direct way to receive that help.

Mike worked successfully in the travel industry for thirty-six years, even through the economic and human tragedy of 2011. Mike has always worked selflessly to provide the best for his family and to educate his employees and peers; he has absolutely done so. In recent years he began his own start-up company with two business partners, this company has managed to stay afloat through the Covid-19 pandemic, and Mike continued to work doggedly up to the day of his most recent hospitalization: over the holidays of 2020 - it was information learned on this last visit which ultimately led to the decision of hospice. While the company still exists (a success in its own right over the last year) it is not in a position to provide health insurance or adequate income for my Dad’s medical expenses.

Nancy Going, my amazing Mom and Mike’s wife of forty years this year, is also a successful and creative entrepreneur. Her jewelry business has continued online through this pandemic, but she was not able to host any in-person events (which are most important) because of Covid-19. For several months now, Nancy has been a full time care-giver for Mike and has not been able to work at all.

Conner and his wife, Michelle, both put their jobs and life on hold for a month to be here, but had to return to Denver. They continue to send love from their home. I have been able to work as well as help my parents.

Quite simply, if it weren’t for my Dad’s medical expenses my parents would be “keeping their heads above the water” despite the pandemic, but with the cost of insurance and the foreseeable costs of at-home care, the money just is not there - and despite being genius, creative, problem-solving and hard working - my parents both currently have the full time job of Dad’s comfort and need help generating income.

We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support. It is difficult to ask for or accept financial help, but it is very much needed and appreciated.

Watching my parents go through this ordeal I realize there is actually nothing in the world (short of a miracle) that could make this better; but if the rest of us could offer financial support, my parents would have one less thing to worry about right now. That would be just short of a miracle in itself.

Thank you for everything and anything you have already done, if you are reading this you have been a part of our lives and for that we are all so appreciative.
