Mike and I are reaching out to our friends, family and colleagues regarding his transplant journey.

Mike's lung disease has progressed rapidly; he is now totally dependent on oxygen to breathe and spends 80-90% of his day in bed . After his medical team at UNC saw him this past week, they have moved us up on the donor list . This is great news! Mike is tired and weak and it breaks my heart to see him struggle like he has been. This is the to only option that gives him the chance to breathe freely again.

While we are beyond grateful that our insurance covers much of the medical procedure itself, there are so many critical expenses that are not covered and while I am unable to work. These additional costs fall on us at the most challenging time of our lives.

These costs include:

* Travel expenses to and from countless appointments

* Specialized medications and medical supplies not fully covered by insurance

* Lost income while Mike heals and I serve as his full-time caregiver

As his wife and caregiver, I continue to stay connected to Mike's dedicated transplant team, his many doctors and nurses and I stay focused on his rehabilitation. I am consumed with managing appointments, medications, and the daily care that this surgery demands.

Each donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to ensuring Mike gets the care and support he needs to recover safely. More than that, your kindness gives us hope, strength, and the reminder that we are not in this alone.
