Hi friends, my name is Mike Finnegan I am the Physical Education teacher at Withrow University High School in Cincinnati, OH. I have been fortunate to have traveled along a 36-year journey in education, serving incredible students over the years.
This coming June, this part my journey is coming to an end as I retire. This June also marks the beginning of my next chapter, in which my life's work will continue to serve the students who will attend Withrow High School in the years to come, and they will then build into their communities.
Thinking back on my teaching career that started in 1985 with The United States Peace Corps as a teacher and coach, I have been thinking this year, what is my legacy going to be? Am I going to leave with just fond memories, or can I continue to make an impact on the young lives who will attend this wonderful high school in the years to come?
With the pandemic hitting our community especially hard, with the disparities we have in the minority communities that surround Withrow, and with health and wellness more important than ever, I am so proud to start the Mike Finnegan Health and Wellness Scholarship.
Starting next fall, the scholarship will honor and award money to outstanding Withrow graduates who make a commitment to enter health and wellness or education fields.
To cap off my teaching journey and kick off this new one, I am embarking on a cross country cycling journey this summer that will take me from Santa Monica, CA to Washington, DC, where my finish line will be at the White House. I again want to set an example to my students that anything is possible and that serving others is paramount.
To make this bike trip and make dreams possible for some outstanding Withrow graduates, I am asking for your help to be the wind at my back and donate to my Go Fund Me campaign.
At Withrow, our motto is “Once a Tiger Always a Tiger”. Thank you for your donation and joining our Tiger pride.\to make the world a better place.
