Mike & Cheryl
On March 15, 2024, Cheryl, Mike, and two of their grandchildren were in a bad vehicle accident on airport road and 31. The grandchildren walked away physically unharmed, Cheryl sustained non-
lifethreatening injuries, Mike however was not so lucky and was lifelined to lutheran in ft.wayne.
Mike has lost both front teeth, half of another tooth, broken all of his ribs (front and back) on his left side, the top several on the right side, and has had his spleen, gallbladder, and part of his bowel removed. He is on a vent, has a trach, and his abdomen is still open with a wound vac over it, and will have to be skin graft down the road. He is fighting a fistula in his small bowel. He has been taken back to the OR for procedures over 20 times at this point and has fought like crazy to stay alive. He has shown improvement lately, but is not out of the woods. Mike still has a long way to go before he will be even out of ICU and even longer before he will be able to come home.
Because the situation has been so difficult, and there is no end in site, we have decided to start a go fund me as things are beginning to financially pile up.
Cheryl has been staying at the Hopes Harbor house that is strictly ran off of donations since 2 nights after the accident. They charge 10/night to those able to pay. So far she has been there for 41 nights and counting. First and foremost, Cheryl wants to use this money to pay what she owes to Hopes Harbor. She is forever grateful for their program and would not feel right leaving and not paying.
After Hopes Harbor is paid, the remaining money raised would go to mikes dental procedures needed from the accident, paying the difference owed on the totaled truck after gap pays what they are willing to pay vs amount owed, paying to get the vehicle they have left fixed that Cheryl drives to get around right now as it just started having issues in the past week, and paying for meals and gas for Cheryl as well as any other medical debt that starts coming in the mail from this accident for both Mike and Cheryl.
They will also need a grocery restock when returning home as Mike's diet will be completely changed and everything in their fridge will need to be replaced due to expirations.
Any amount helps. We have had the best support system, and truly appreciate everyone that has helped so far and any help there is to come! If you are unable to financially contribute, please pray. Prayer has helped so much this far.
