B. Michael Belton, 74, departed the Earth on June 27, 2024, while at Moses H. Cone Hospital. He was born on November 26, 1949, in Summerfield to the late James Taylor and Ruby Sparks Belton. Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War as part of the 101st Airborne Reconnaissance, dedicating himself to the family and country he loved so deeply.
Mike graduated from Northwest High School in 1968 and earned an associate degree in business. After his time in the service, he retired from BellSouth, where he was known for his cable splicing abilities. He was also the first post commander of VFW #7999 in Summerfield, North Carolina. He served as a Deacon at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church in Bassett, Virginia, exemplifying his deep faith and commitment to his community. Mike was a great friend, husband, and father, known for his caregiving nature and his unwavering faith as a child of God. Earth's loss is Heaven's gain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers Avery Cleo, James, and Phillip Wayne Belton; one sister Esquerita Nordmann; and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by the love of his life for 51 years, Deborah Koontz Belton; two daughters, Jennifer Belton, and Mia Belton; one brother-in-law, Bill Koontz; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Koontz Keys; and many extended family members and beloved friends.
Mike will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him, and his smile that lit up a room will never be forgotten. A Memorial service will be held at Summerfield First Baptist Church on July 28th, at 2:00pm. Forbis and Dick Stokesdale is assisting the Belton family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to a GoFundMe for his daughter, Mia Belton. The fund will support her continued education and flight training, which her father always helped her pursue.
