On August 11, my cousin Michael Amsberry was involved in a severe motorcycle accident. He messaged his wife around 8 pm he was on his way home, and she didn't know anything had happened until 3 am when a nurse finally got a hold of her. The accident details are unclear as police reports haven't come in yet. Thankfully he is avid about his motorcycle safety and had all his gear and helmet on, which most likely saved his life.
He sustained multiple broken ribs, multiple broken lower vertebrae in his back, a spleen laceration that caused internal bleeding, a partially collapsed lung, and road rash throughout his body. He was taken to the OR, and they repaired his Spleen. He stayed in the ICU for close monitoring to ensure the bleeding didn't start back up. Today he was downgraded out of ICU and to a step-down room. However, his visit is more complicated as he was asymptomatically positive for COVID and cannot have visitors while in isolation. Making his healing journey even harder on him and his family.
While we are beyond grateful for him to be up and able to talk to his family, my cousin has a long road of healing ahead of him. He works as a mechanic and uses his body a lot. He will be out of work for a minimum of 6-10 weeks. We all know insurance the burden of hospital bills, so if any stress can be alleviated, I know he and his family will be forever grateful. No one should worry about finances in these circumstances and should focus on healing and being surrounded by loved ones.
Whether it's $5 or $100, thank you so much for any and all your help. Mike Amsberry is a fantastic dad, husband, son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin, and we all want to make this as easy for him as we can.
