Support Mike and Tricia Reling and their Road to Recovery
For those of you that know and love Mike Reling, Tricia Reling, and all that they bring and do for the community of Gaylord, Michigan and the surrounding areas, it is time to rally and support this couple through their darkest hour.
On April 25, 2018 Mike Reling was thirty seconds from going live on air at the Eagle 101.5 when his phone buzzed with a text from his wife of 28 years, Tricia, saying that she had a horrible headache, and something was terribly wrong. Mike rushed home and immediately took Tricia to Otsego Memorial Hospital. Following a CT scan, it was determined that Tricia was suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm and was going to be flown via helicopter to St. Mary’s in Saginaw. Tricia then underwent emergency brain surgery to clamp the brain bleed. This surgery included significant trauma to her skull and brain, of which she will be recovering for an indefinite amount of time. After two weeks in ICU in Saginaw Tricia was released to come home. Despite the joy that step has brought, she remains in a delicate state. One that requires constant around the clock care, numerous medications and expensive co-pays, along with a bumpy road to recovery.
Tricia is a self-employed technical writer, whose master of vocabulary, grammar, editing and writing is unparalleled. Yet, today she is having trouble completing a simple text message. She is unable to work and the timetable for her return to writing is completely unknown.
Mike has been the voice of Gaylord for more than 21 years, our community’s cheerleader, champion, commentator, and inspirational voice on the Eagle 101.5. He has not been able to work since April 25th, and as Tricia’s sole caregiver his ability to return to work at his regular pace is uncertain. The entire community of Gaylord and surrounding areas have woken daily to his cheerful voice. How many times have we heard Mike help raise money for a local charity, share an inspirational message from a local hero, or have the perfect comment for a tough community moment? Mike is our on-air voice and Tricia is our on-paper gal, and now they are faced with unimaginable bills and medical debt. Coupled with Tricia’s inability to work and significant prescription drug costs weekly, the bills and stressors are mounting.
We need to rally to ensure they can remain in our community and in their home. We as a community can work to reduce their financial stresses so that they can focus on Tricia’s recovery and both of their healing from this traumatic event.
So, if you know Mike and Tricia Reling, if Tricia ever helped edit your materials, if you have ever heard Mike on the radio, if he ever interviewed you, if you ever laughed at his jokes, if you ever talked baseball with Mike, if you were ever inspired by Mike, his words, or his beams of energy, I humbly ask you to give what you can to support their road to recovery.
