Hello everyone,
My name is MiKayla, and I’m reaching out to you today with a heavy heart to ask for ANY help and support. At the end of 2021, I made the bold decision to leave my home state, family, friends, pets, and family ranch to move to Florida and pursue a career in yachting. I was excited to embark on a new chapter of my life, working hard to build a future and create a life I had always dreamed of.
Unfortunately, life threw me a curveball I wasn’t expecting. In 2023, I needed to get home to help my father who was struggling through chemo/radiation for throat cancer and unable to take care of the family ranch/property. While home on the ranch in Missouri, I was involved in a traumatic ATV accident where I flipped it on my body and was pinned under the ATV in a field, without help. That left me with a severe left leg/ankle injury. What was supposed to be a helpful trip home, turned into everybody having to take care of me. The injury had left me unable to walk, or get back to Florida for work for 3 months, as I had to do rehab in Missouri to walk again. (Which my Florida insurance didn't cover because it was out of network).
I made it back to Florida and went straight back to working on yachts. Not fully recovered, but I couldn't take anymore time off of work as I was paying for rent to keep a roof over my head in South Florida this whole time (somehow).
After over a year of dealing with constant ankle swelling, I became a liability in 2025 (while out of the country/on a boat) due to the injury not healing. I needed major surgery for ligament replacement and a navicular bone fracture. So I was left with no choice but to finally take care of myself and be out of work from January-May.
As a single 29-year-old woman, I’ve always been independent and self-sufficient, relying on my hard work to support myself. However, with my injury, I’m now facing medical bills, daily living expenses, and the stress of not being able to work for an extended period of time.
I’m reaching out to ask for help in my recovery journey. The medical costs for my treatment and rehabilitation are stacking up, and I’m worried about how I’ll manage everything on my own while I heal. Your generous donations will go toward:
Transportation: To and home from physical therapy and surgeon appointments.
Medical: Appointments for/back home from surgeon. Primary & blood work.
Living expenses: Rent, utilities, and groceries while I am unable to work
Rehabilitation: Physical therapy and transportation.
I never imagined I’d be in this position, and I hate having to ask for help, but I know that I can’t do this alone. Any amount, no matter how small, will help me get closer to my goal of recovery. If you can’t donate, sharing this page with your friends and family means the world to me.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, support, and generosity. I can’t wait to heal, get back to work, and continue chasing my dreams in the yachting industry.
*I also hate asking for help so any donations so whatever you can contribute thank YOU so much! *
With gratitude and so much thanks,
MiKayla
