Mikayla and her family

We are setting up this go-fund me page on behalf of Mikayla Valentin and her family. Mikayla is one of the kindest, most uplifting human beings to have ever blessed our lives. She is always here to cheer us up and help us pull through by giving us hope and love. Recently we have seen her lose this cheer and hope in life. Her father passed away on May 6th 2020. Six days after her birthday and half a month after her moving out for the very first time. We saw her try to pull through for the sake of her younger sister and mother, but continually struggle as more and more kept piling up as a result of her father's death. One week after her father's death she found out that her father left no will but had told family members that anything he owned would be given to Mikayla and her younger sister. That included her childhood home in Friday Harbor and any belongings from her father. Unfortunately that means an entire mortgage was thrust upon her. To top things off, a week after bringing home her father’s car after having to pay the bill form the shop it was at to get it out, it was stolen from our house and recovered in SeaTac. However, the title is missing after this whole mess with the car being stolen so she can’t sell it to aid with legal fees. Since her father left no will she has to hire a lawyer to help her through the legal process and deal with the debt and responsibility her father has passed onto her. She has tried to deny any kind of help because she feels like this is only her responsibility to deal with but as her friends we can't watch her fight this struggle alone. We have seen her struggle to pay rent, not be able to take her cat to the vet because she can't afford it and struggle to pay for food and amenities. All of these unsuspected bills have left her in a horrible place financially, she’s unsure if she will even be able to make ends meet by the series of unfortunate events that have occured. If she doesn't pay the 4,540 of legal fees the balance will be passed on to her single mother who is also struggling to make ends meet while taking care of a special needs child and elderly mother recovering from a recent stroke. She has 2 weeks to come up with the money and she's only 21 and is forced to grow up and get through this all while starting her senior year in physics at Seattle Pacific University on a scholarship that lies uncertain and promises eventual student loan payments once she graduates this year. This year has been rough for her and we just want to be able to give her some hope that things are getting better. She wants to keep this house because it's the last thing she has that reminds her of happier times with her father. Anything you are able to donate and help out with, even if it's just a dollar, would be extremely appreciated. A little goes a long way and this is the only way we can think of to help in this situation.
