Mikaele Lui (known as Mika) is 35 years of age and visited Auckland, New Zealand earlier this year, and was due to return home but is stuck here due to Covid-19. On Monday 17th August 2020, he was rushed and admitted to Middlemore Hospital as he was experiencing severe back pain. The following day, after multiple blood tests were taken, the doctor shared with Mika, who was by himself at the hospital due to Level 3 restrictions, that he has been diagnosed with Leukaemia. It was difficult news for the family to hear, let alone not to be with Mika by his side. This came as a shock to all of us. Our families are still coming to terms with the unexpected news.
He is a loving husband and father of five beautiful children, all under the age of 10, who all live in Vava’u, Tonga. He has not seen them since the beginning of the year and they have had to receive such devastating news over the phone.
We have created this page on behalf of our uncle, cousin, brother, husband and father to raise funds for his medical treatment. The doctor has advised that his cancer at this stage is treatable. Mika is not a resident of New Zealand, and the treatment is unfunded. The costs are to help with his chemotherapy, prescription, drugs and hospital visits which is a minimum of NZD$100,000. Mika has been discharged from the hospital and is awaiting treatment.
We humbly ask for any contribution.
We have set up this campaign and was unaware that New Zealand is not currently supported by GoFundMe as a payment processor. As the funds raised are in Australian currency, we have set up Marta Lee Tangi, Mika's first cousin, as the beneficiary.
Together with God, all things are possible.
With love and prayers,
