Mija’s Emergency Medical Fund

This is 15 year old Mija Lundgren, who was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on July 29th, 2021. Mija has had multiple tests to determine if she has Covid-19 or MIS-C. So far, five Covid tests as well as antibody tests have come back negative. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome is an illness that can occur after COVID-19 infection and effects mostly school-aged children like Mija. While this syndrome is rare, it can be very dangerous. Mija does meet the criteria for MIS-C. Although, at this time, the main priority is treatment for bilateral pneumonia and keeping her oxygen saturation levels up. Mija does have heart and liver damage due to swelling from exposure to the Covid Virus. She is also receiving anticoagulants for an elevated D-Dimer. Mija will need follow up care with Gastroenterologist, Cardiologist, Hematologist and Pulmonologist. Mijas parents are divorced and due to Covid, her mother Jaime has missed work and will continue to miss work because she is at her bedside. Because of hospital policies, if Jaime leaves she can’t go back to the hospital and Mija will be alone . Everyone keeps asking what they can do to help, and although the family has health insurance, not everything will be covered. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated for this family during this difficult time. We do not know how long Mija will remain in the intensive care unit, but we do know that she has a long road ahead and is going to need all the love and support she can get. Most importantly, please keep Mija in your prayers and pray that she will get better soon and get to go home.
