Hello! My name is Mio Shimizu, and I am honored to share that I have been given the opportunity to perform as a member of Santa Clara Vanguard for the 2026 Drum Corps International (DCI) season.

I am truly grateful and excited to be able to make this announcement.

Drum Corps International (DCI) is widely regarded as the highest level of marching arts competition. It brings together elite ensembles made up of top-level performers who have passed highly competitive auditions from across the United States and around the world.

From May through August, members undergo approximately three months of intense training while touring across the country, presenting world-class performances at venues nationwide.

I began marching at the age of eight, and the first time I saw American marching arts, I was deeply moved by its scale.

The number of performers, the big stadiums, and the outstanding world class level of each ensemble were unlike anything I had seen in Japan. Every little aspect of it left a lasting impression on me, and the dream of marching on this stage someday was born.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to fulfill that dream and spend a season as a member of Santa Clara Vanguard. Through that experience, my desire to age out with this team grew even stronger, which led me to audition again this year.

I am incredibly thankful to have earned the opportunity to return to this amazing organization. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported me along the way.

However, participating in DCI comes with a significant financial commitment. The total tour fees range from approximately $7,000 to $8,000, and due to the recent weakness of the Japanese yen, preparing these expenses in U.S. dollars from Japan is especially challenging.

For this reason, I am kindly asking for your support.

No matter the amount, every donation means a great deal to me and serves as a bridge toward achieving my dream. To give my all in my final season with an incredible group of performers, outstanding instructors, and a team I truly love, I would be deeply grateful for your support.

Use of Funds

• Season participation and operational fees

• Transportation and lodging costs for the national tour

• Necessary expenses for instruments, equipment, and uniforms

All funds received will be used exclusively to support my participation in the 2026 DCI season.
