Matt Mihalich Memorial College Fund

Matthew Francis Mihalich, Esq. passed away suddenly on June 5, 2022, in Brewster, Massachusetts. Born March 19, 1984 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to James and Jane Mihalich, he graduated from St. John’s High School (class of 2002) in Shrewsbury before moving to Washington, DC where he attended George Washington University as both an undergraduate (class of 2006) and a law student (class of 2010). Matt operated his own private practice before joining Tully Rinckey PLLC as an Associate Attorney in 2021.

Matt’s soul was made of solid gold. He was a man who could find joy and humor in almost any situation, and was sure to spread it with his contagious smile and boisterous laughter. He brought this joyful outlook into his marriage to Marta Poltorak as a loving husband and an amazing father. A man of dizzying intellect armed with a sharp tongue, he worked with several local organizations to help realize a more just and equitable world. He also enjoyed playing video games and board games with his friends and family- the more complex the rules and mechanics of the game, the better. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer sage advice for any problem you had. Every time you saw Matt, you would leave feeling happier, more hopeful, and more knowledgeable about whatever topic had captured Matt’s imagination recently.

He is survived by his beloved wife Marta; daughters Marceline and Madeleine and a baby boy Mihalich due in August; his brothers Alexander and Neil Mihalich; sister-in-law Allison Mihalich; step-brother-in-law Amir Elkamel; father Jim Mihalich; father in-law Maciej Poltorak and step mother in-law Edyta Szemiel and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Mihalich, and mother-in-law, Barbara Misiewicz-Poltorak. Public viewing will be held at the Pumphrey Funeral Home of Bethesda, Maryland on Sunday June 12th from 5pm-7pm. Service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Poland Parish in Silver Spring, Maryland on Monday, June 13th at 11:30am, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
