Miguel’s Brain Tumor treatment

Hi, My name is Jacqueline Camp-Carillo, an overseas Nurse working for the NHS ,originally trained in the Philippines where our family comes from.Over a week ago my Husband’s family was devastated by the news of his nephew having a Brain Tumor. This news broke a day before Miguel who is 15 years old was about to receive his academic excellence award in school.

The Family has sought different opinions from 3 different doctors including opinions from my ward doctors in the NHS. Scans has shown Germinoma a rare form of brain cancer in children. The cancer originates in germs cells, which are actually sex cells that fail to leave the brain when the fetus is still in utero. In shock, the family is working hand in hand to raise funds to get his treatment started. As much as we can support them financially, my Husband and I know the family cannot do it alone. As a mum, it breaks my heart to hear Miguel say “Auntie ,will I be well enough to go to school next week??” How do you explain to a child that further hospital visits is needed to make sure he will be given the best chances of survival?

Miguel is a bright child, loves basketball makes friends wherever he goes. A responsible brother to his siblings extended to his cousins. After his parents broke the news to him needing multiple surgeries and further treatment thereafter, the need for him to stop school for awhile to get better ,he replied, “its ok mum, i will get better soon so i can go back to school, finish university and be a good teacher so i can help other kids then I will be able to help both of you in the future.” Hearing this broke me. The spirit to keep going is unfathomable. This campaign is to help Miguel see that future he is hoping to have. With treatment accompanied with prayers his chances of seeing this future is what we long for.

Working for the NHS has been a great opportunity for me to grow in so many ways, it also opened my eyes in how blessed this Country is to have a very well established health care system that gets families every treatment they need for free. Unfortunately The Philippines does not have this and everything is to be paid for. My goal is to raise funds to help him have the surgeries ,medications and further treatment he needs possibly chemo/radiotherapy. We will keep going so as long as Miguel says he can, we will. As a family we thank you all for your kind and generous hearts.
