Hello, I am Merritt, I am Miguelina's daughter in law. Last Thursday night on the 23rd of January Miguelina fell outside her house. She broke her femur in her right leg and as well as did damage to the bone assending into her hip, she was taken by ambulance to the local social security hospital here in Veracruz, Mexico. It is now Monday the 27th of January, and we still don't know if she will have surgery or not. We have been waiting on the doctors to decide if she is okay to be cleared for surgery with her osteoporis. To be honest the healthcare is nothing like in the United States, I feel like they don't do anything to help. Her blood sugar was 416, cause she is diabetic, she also has high blood pressure, bone cancer, and osteoporosis. As for her meal trays she has been given food that she doesn't need to be eating as a diabetic, but they only have the food that is provided. She has been eating things she doesn't need to eat because she is hungry, and outside food isn't an option. She will need her medicine including her chemo treatments that will not be available here for her. From what I understand she could be here for 6 to 8 weeks. She will also need to donors for blood, which is something they require here in Mexico. We are all scheduled to go back home to Lexington, KY on Thursday, January 30th, as myself and Benjamin both will need to go back to work. Today I made lots of calls to the embassy, UK to talk to the social workers, and to several medical airplane units. I didn't make much headway with anything but did discover the cost of the flight from Veracruz, Mexico to Lexington, KY would be anywhere from 45 to 55k dollars, with no coverage from Medicare or her secondary insurance. Unfortunately, we or our family doesn't have that amount of money to pay for the airflight, so we are asking for your support to at least help us have a healthcare provider to be able to stay with her morning and night. Anything helps, and we all would be forever grateful.
