Miguel Villarreal Memorial Send Off

We are devastated that Miguel Villarreal has left this world. We all wanted more time with him. Those who knew him described him as having "a heart bigger than he was," as "family" to many on Orcas, and as "a sweet and gentle heart."

Miguel was a grateful and active part of the community on Orcas. As he put it (in his book): "We are blessed to live in a place with so much philanthropy. There is a system and people to help anyone in need. Want to change the world? Make it better? Volunteer! Do something good. There are a lot of things out of our control. But that shouldn't stop us from doing something--"

As we honor and remember Miguel and all the love he gave us, we

are asking for financial support to help his family with the many associated end-of-life costs. Any funds raised will be used toward the cost of cremation, rental space for the memorial, travel and accommodations for immediate family to attend the memorial, and settling affairs.

There are two ways to donate:

A Memorial Potluck for Miguel will be held on September 18, beginning at 11am, at the Village Green on Orcas. Please bring a dish to share, if you're able, and your own utensils, plates, preferred beverage, and a chair/blanket for seating. And especially bring your favorite stories of Miguel!
