Miguel Mendez 2023 Boston Marathon
On Monday, April 17th I will be running my first Marathon. I can’t stress enough how blessed and honored I am to do it in honor of Boston Police Sergeant Dennis “DJ” Simmonds. I am so grateful for the opportunity to honor DJ’s life, sacrifice, family and memory. My goal is to bring awareness to his story and to the ultimate sacrifice he paid for the city of Boston.
DJ went to Randolph Public Schools and the Randolph community will forever be his family’s hometown. To promote DJ’s mission, we are raising funds for the Dennis “DJ” Simmonds Unsung Hero Foundation. This nonprofit was founded by DJ’s sister and my colleague, Nicole, to support young people with a shared lived experience to DJ. The foundation provides students with academic scholarships and access to activities and experiences to amplify their future.
The foundation’s mission is to align community resources to uphold the strength, reputation, and legacy of DJ’s hometown of Randolph, MA.
Those that know me I am not one to ask for help but for this cause I do need your help. It would mean the world to me if you would support this worthy cause in any way you can. I appreciate all of your support and encouragement through this journey!
