Miguel Angel is 6 years old.He is from Cali Colombia.He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 1.His daily routine involves needles and insulin intake. Because of this his challenging lifestyle, his single mother Karime saved enough money to treat her only son to a special trip to Disney. They would lodge with a family friend in Miami.He was so HAPPY and thankful his wish to visit the Disney park had finally come true.The two also had flight arrangements to visit San Antonio to see his great uncle Carlos Hernandez.
They were welcomed to the family's home and Miguel Angel got to visit multiple child friendly city attractions to include the San Antonio Zoo.
I met Miguel Angel and his Mom as they stopped by to say good goodbye to the rest of the family(My very dear close friends) at their family owned business. They flew back to Miami Monday January 23 and were scheduled to fly back to Colombia the next morning. As they were getting one last tour of the city later that evening. Miguel Angel and his Mom were passengers in a vehicle and were involved in a tragic and fatal accident which claimed the life of a gentleman on the scene. Miguel Angel received severe head trauma and damage to one of his kidneys.He had to be induced into a comma and he was going to have to have one of his kidneys removed.
He is alive by the grace of God, as he has better plans for him.He has finally gained conscience and continues to get a slowly recover each day.He will have to remain in the USA for an indefinite period of time until he is well enough to go back home.His mother is not only enduring her child's terrible tragedy but also faces the possible termination of employment since she does not know when they will be able to return home.They are alone in the HOLTZ Children's Hospital in Miami. She has made his hospital room her current home. They came to visit with limited funds and will now have to remain here without a plan or funds to survive.
I ask for your prayers for Miguel Angel and his Mother.
As a mother I can't imagine the concern for her only child's life and what the future holds for him. Your help will be greatly appreciated it.
