Wyatt started school this year. The first year of preschool is always one marked by colds and fevers as the immune system acclimates to the classroom germ pool. This year, however, was a doozy, especially for Wyatt. After multiple days with a high temperature, multiple trips to the doctor, and a trip to the ER, Wyatt woke on Tuesday, March 14th with acute swelling on the left side of his neck. Another trip to the ER and CT scans determined that there was an infection in his muscle and IV antibiotics were necessary. Once Wyatt was admitted his condition deteriorated quickly. It was discovered that the infection had moved into his bloodstream and was identified as Streptococcus group A. He was moved to the ICU as the swelling was spreading rapidly and emergency surgery was called for. Wyatt has spent the week in the ICU and has been improving. After three days, sedated and on a ventilator, Wyatt is recovering. The doctors warn that recovery will be a long road. Both Wyatt's Mom, Kyla and Dad, Mike are committed to walking it with him. We would like to support them as a community so that they can focus on this journey with Wyatt. We hope to ease the stress caused by the unforeseen medical expenses.
